Green Play City | Dates & Directions

The Green Play City in Bonn-Dransdorf is not an ordinary leisure place, but a nature experience area that connects art, landscape, learning, and participation. On 4,500 square meters, more than 30 willow sculptures grow, making the place a special address for families, nature lovers, school groups, and anyone looking for something unusual in Bonn. The Science Shop Bonn describes the facility as a public place for events, workshops, and shared experiences; at the same time, the area can also be used for individual occasions by arrangement. Those searching for Green Play City Bonn dates, Green Play City Bonn Dransdorf, directions, parking, or photos will therefore not end up at a classic event hall, but at a lively outdoor area with a strong environmental education character. The search queries clearly show what visitors expect: a well-accessible place with a regular program, a unique history, and an atmosphere that significantly differs from typical play and event areas. Particularly striking is the mix of public accessibility at fixed times and targeted group bookings. This combination explains why terms like Green Playground, Green Play City Bonn address, and Green Play City reviews frequently appear together. In the available location data, the place is rated with 4.4 stars based on 63 reviews, which further supports the positive overall impression. Dates, Open Sundays, and Current Events

The most important search queries almost always revolve around dates, programs, and opening hours. WILA Bonn informs that the Green Play City usually opens for Open Sundays from April to September on the first Sunday of the month from 1 PM to 5 PM. Admission is free; additional offerings like workshops or detailed tours may vary and will be announced shortly before the date. The event page also features special dates, making it worthwhile to check the calendar regularly. For visitors, this means: those planning a family outing can choose the Open Sunday as a relaxed start; those specifically looking for a certain program should check the information on the website before arriving. This recurring structure makes the Green Play City interesting for search queries like Green Play City Bonn dates or Green Play City Bonn Dransdorf. ([wilabonn.de](https://www.wilabonn.de/themen/lokal/gruene-spielstadt/spielstadt-veranstaltungen.html))

Content-wise, the program focuses on nature, art, and participation. WILA Bonn describes performances by artists with music, theater, and other formats, as well as craft and art activities for children. This is complemented by the environmental rally available, which invites independent exploration. As a result, a simple visit quickly becomes a whole afternoon of discovery, where families not only observe but also become active themselves. The changing programs are an important part of the charm: sometimes a theater impulse is the focus, sometimes a music action, sometimes a workshop or a practical tour. For seekers, this is relevant because they usually expect not just a date under the keyword dates, but the question of what actually happens on that day on-site. The Green Play City meets this expectation with an open, lively format that consciously differs from rigid offerings. Therefore, those searching for Green Play City Bonn dates are often also looking for an occasion for a special Sunday in Bonn-Dransdorf. Directions, Address, and Parking

The address and directions are among the most searched information. The official route describes how to arrive by bicycle, bus, train, and car. From Bonn Central Station, bus lines 610 and 611 go via the Hans-Sachs-Straße stop; alternatively, the S-Bahn line 23 to Bonn-Endenich-Nord and the city rail lines 18 and 68 with the stops Robert-Kirchhoff-Straße or Dransdorf are mentioned. Those traveling on foot follow the described paths over Auf dem Dransdorfer Berg, An der alten Stadtgärtnerei, and finally to the entrance near Im Dransdorfer Feld or An der Schwarzen Brücke. This route description is particularly helpful because the Green Play City is located on the edge of the Meßdorfer Feld and is not immediately visible like a classic city center destination. This is exactly why search queries like Green Play City Bonn address or Green Play City directions appear so frequently. ([wilabonn.de](https://www.wilabonn.de/buergergesellschaft-und-nachhaltigkeit/gruene-spielstadt/2-uncategorised/500-anfahrt-gruene-spielstadt.html))

When driving, one important note is: according to WILA Bonn, parking is only available on the street Auf dem Dransdorfer Berg. From there, it is a short walk to the field path Im Dransdorfer Feld and then to the separate entrance of the Green Play City. For the search query Green Play City Bonn parking, this is the central answer, as the page makes it clear that one cannot park directly at the entrance. Those coming with children, luggage, or for an event should therefore plan more time and account for the last stretch as a short walk. That bicycles can be secured in the entrance area and that access is also possible via the Meßdorfer Feld shows how strongly the place is focused on environmentally friendly mobility and a quiet environment. Especially for a site that emphasizes nature experience and outdoor time, this rather decelerated arrival fits very well into the overall picture. ([wilabonn.de](https://www.wilabonn.de/buergergesellschaft-und-nachhaltigkeit/gruene-spielstadt/2-uncategorised/500-anfahrt-gruene-spielstadt.html))

Willow Sculptures, Nature Art, and the Area

The actual highlight of the Green Play City is the area itself. The official description speaks of nature on 4,500 square meters and more than 30 willow sculptures that connect nature and art. The area features walkable and living structures that change over the years, grow further, and thus always appear different. Examples like the Rock’n’Roll House or the Fast Breeder show that the facility consists not only of simple willow hedges but of artistically conceived tree structures that invite walking through, lingering, and marveling. This mix makes the facility attractive for families, photography fans, and nature enthusiasts. It is neither a mere park nor a purely artistic object but a space where use and growth belong together. ([wilabonn.de](https://www.wilabonn.de/themen/61-lokales/gruene-spielstadt.html))

Those searching for photos will find a photographic tour of the willow area on the website. This is not only visually helpful but also content-wise meaningful, as many objects in the area have grown or changed in form over time. The official documentation therefore shows not only individual sculptures but also paths, spaces, and the development of the facility. The descriptions also make it clear that they do not want to compete with a strictly trimmed park here but rather give natural growth space. This creates living spaces that remain preserved from the inside, even as their outer form evolves. For search queries like Green Play City photos, willow sculptures Bonn, or Green Playground, this imagery is crucial: people want to see in advance what to expect on-site and get a pretty good idea of the atmosphere, structure, and special architecture made from willow rods on the official page. ([wilabonn.de](https://www.wilabonn.de/themen/61-lokales/gruene-spielstadt.html))

History of the Green Play City in Bonn-Dransdorf

Historically, the Green Play City began in the second half of the 1990s. According to WILA Bonn and accompanying materials, a green model facility was created from 1996 on the site behind the former city nursery and on the edge of the Meßdorfer Feld, which became known as the project From Hedges to Houses in the context of Expo 2000. During this project, numerous buildings and sculptures made of willow were created, connecting art and nature in unusual ways. The founders Luzia Mayer and Dr. Walfried Pohl shaped the project from the beginning, and the Science Shop Bonn took over sponsorship in 2007. This transformed an artistic idea into a permanent nature experience area in Bonn with educational aspirations. This development also explains why the Green Play City is so independent in content: it was not created as a standardized amusement park but as an open project supported by many participants. ([wilabonn.de](https://www.wilabonn.de/aktuelles/weiteres-aus-dem-wila/1050-dr-walfried-pohl-verstorben.html))

The official tour describes how different buildings, sculptures, and nature installations have been added over time and how some elements were deliberately allowed to follow natural growth. Some original objects have disappeared or changed in form over the years without losing the character of the project. This is exactly where the identity of the place lies: the facility should not assert itself against nature but grow with it. The Green Play City is thus also an example of a vibrant urban landscape, where design, care, and change play together. This makes the place in Bonn-Dransdorf equally interesting for search queries about history, peculiarities, and photos, as the past is still visible on the site. Those who understand the development see not just a beautiful green space when visiting but a project with ideas, attitudes, and a long history of care. ([wilabonn.de](https://www.wilabonn.de/images/PDFs/Gr%C3%BCne%20Spielstadt/GS-rundgang.pdf))

Renting, Celebrating, and Group Offers

In addition to public dates, the use for groups is a central theme. WILA Bonn writes that the Green Play City can be used by arrangement for individual occasions like children's birthdays or company celebrations. The rental model includes the handover of keys, an introduction to the site rules, and exclusive usage rights during the booked time. This makes the facility particularly suitable for groups seeking nature, tranquility, and an unusual environment. The prices are tiered according to group size and duration; since 2025, increased flat rates will apply according to WILA Bonn. For visitors, this is especially important because the Green Play City is not an ordinary event location with a tightly scheduled service but a nature-oriented area that wants to be used responsibly. This interplay of freedom and responsibility is what makes booking appealing. ([wilabonn.de](https://www.wilabonn.de/themen/lokal/gruene-spielstadt/spielstadt-mieten.html))

Practical conditions also include that there are neither electricity nor water connections and no trash cans. Those booking the area for a celebration or a group must consider this in their planning and leave everything as it was found. There are specific rules for campfires and barbecuing, and the clay oven can be used after instruction. These notes are particularly relevant for search queries like Green Play City renting or Green Play City Bonn Dransdorf, as they clarify that while the place is flexible, it is not arbitrary. Especially those planning a children's birthday, a small celebration, or a special nature day will find here a very direct, nature-oriented setting instead of a classic event space. This can be very charming but also requires some preparation. Those who take this into account will find in the Green Play City a rare mix of closeness to nature, independence, and communal use. ([wilabonn.de](https://www.wilabonn.de/themen/lokal/gruene-spielstadt/spielstadt-mieten.html))

Environmental Education, Families, and Special Experiences

Another strong focus is on environmental education. WILA Bonn collaborates with ZUB e.V., which offers environmental education workshops for children and adults upon request. According to project information, various events are developed for daycare centers and schools that can be adapted to curricula. These include nature observation, animal tracks on the ground, technical ideas from nature, and other practical learning forms. The Green Play City is thus described not only as a destination for excursions but also as an outdoor learning place where nature can be experienced with all senses. For families, schools, and daycare centers, this is an important reason to search for Green Play City Bonn dates or suitable group offers. The place is suitable not only for a relaxed walk but also for content that one usually knows from classrooms or workshops. ([wilabonn.de](https://www.wilabonn.de/themen/lokal/gruene-spielstadt/spielstadt-veranstaltungen.html))

The social and cultural aspect is also remarkable. WILA Bonn mentions regular care meetings where volunteers can help with willow cutting and refers to intercultural encounters, such as the Africa Festival. Furthermore, the project Out of the House examined how the Green Play City can become even more vibrant as an outdoor learning place. There, crawling tunnels, an oversized echo egg, and meter-high willow sculptures are explicitly mentioned as elements that stimulate nature experience. Thus, the Green Play City is more than just a pretty backdrop: it is a place where care, volunteer work, education, and encounters come together. Those who look at photos beforehand or read reviews quickly understand that it is precisely this mix that makes the charm. In the location data, the Green Play City is rated with 4.4 stars based on 63 reviews; together with the official description, this creates the image of a sympathetic, special place that convinces primarily through atmosphere, nature, and communal use. ([wilabonn.de](https://www.wilabonn.de/themen/lokal/gruene-spielstadt/spielstadt-veranstaltungen.html))

For anyone looking for an extraordinary place between nature, art, and community in Bonn, the Green Play City encapsulates exactly the search intent behind terms like address, parking, photos, dates, and reviews. Those wishing to visit the place should keep an eye on the Open Sundays, plan the journey according to the official directions, and inquire early for group occasions. This turns a search query into a concrete outing that is truly special in Bonn-Dransdorf. The mix of living willow structures, recurring events, easy accessibility, and nature-oriented group use makes the Green Play City a place with high recognition. Especially because the area changes over time, a second visit is also worthwhile. Every season, every care action, and every program brings new impressions. Therefore, the Green Play City is not only a destination for today but also a place that can be rediscovered in Bonn time and again. ([wilabonn.de](https://www.wilabonn.de/themen/lokal/gruene-spielstadt/spielstadt-mieten.html))

Perfect for smaller and larger parties for families with children in daycare and elementary school age. There are some beer benches, as well as a grill, pizza oven, and fire pit. Everything must be brought and removed by yourself. There is no electricity and no running water. We had the perfect afternoon there. The situation with the portable toilets should perhaps be reconsidered by the organizer.

Beautiful green oasis close to the city, great for a bike trip or just to hang out... We regularly visit the Green Play City and have been doing so for a few years ("Open Sundays" from April to September, currently on the first Sunday of the month). There are always a few activities (magicians, theater, crafting & painting, etc.) and a lot of nature and art made from nature to discover independently. The number of visitors seems to depend on the weather and holidays. Admission is free, but donations are welcome. There was also food during our last visit: a few cakes, coffee, and a small selection of drinks - very affordable (mostly organized by volunteers; a piece of cheesecake & coffee was about 2 €).
