When unwanted gifts turn into great improvisational theater
On December 18, 2026, the Atelier Bühne Bonn transforms into a laboratory of spontaneous stage art: At the big White Elephant Show by TOMATO, SCHAULUST & Friends, strange findings, long-forgotten knickknacks, and quirky Christmas gifts become the starting point for completely new stories.
Every gift opens a new scene
A ceramic frog, a never-lit scented candle, or an object whose original purpose has long been forgotten: The audience brings their quirky white elephant gifts, which the performers turn into dramatic miniatures live on stage. Those without a gift will still experience an evening full of surprises, as some stage props are already waiting for their big moment.
Improvisation as an immediate stage experience
The performance is created in the moment. Without a fixed script, the actors develop wild, absurd, hilarious, and touching scenes. Every audience reaction can become the impulse for the next twist. This open dramaturgy gives the evening its special theater atmosphere: Nothing is repeatable, every moment belongs to that one December night.
Acting between comedy and surprise
Alain Adams, Birgit Elke Ising, Birgit Fritz, Carolin Dörmbach, and Vladimir Andrienko create entire stories out of seemingly worthless items. Sebastian Fuhrmann accompanies the proceedings musically. The principles of improvisational theater meet the festive tension of the white elephant exchange and create a stage world where characters, conflicts, and unexpected punchlines emerge from everyday objects.
An evening for curious theatergoers
The show combines shared laughter, creative playfulness, and the immediate closeness of a small studio stage. Those who love improv theater find here a concentrated form of spontaneous acting. For those attending such a performance for the first time, it’s astonishing how quickly a casual object can turn into a complete stage adventure.
Conclusion: Christmas spirit with a quirky twist
The big White Elephant Show promises an unpredictable stage experience filled with absurd humor, musical impulses, and surprisingly touching moments. Anyone looking for an unusual theater evening in Bonn should bring the strangest gift possible and experience live what story lies hidden within.
