GreenBonn Hackathon 2026: Developing sustainable solutions together from environmental data
A week, a real challenge, and plenty of room for innovative ideas: At the GreenBonn Hackathon 2026, participants will work from November 16 to 22 in Bonn on digital solutions for the environmental data management of Stadtwerke Bonn. The focus is on how data on energy, emissions, water, waste, and mobility can be made transparent, understandable, and multi-use.
The Challenge: Sustainable Impact from Raw Data
Participants will develop a digital prototype that brings together heterogeneous environmental data, standardizes or recalculates them if necessary, and represents them in a traceable manner. It should remain clear where a data value comes from, for which unit and period it applies, and how it was calculated. The technical implementation is left to the teams.
Kick-off, Team Formation, and Joint Working Phase
The kickoff takes place on Monday, November 16, at 4 PM at DIGITALHUB.DE CITYHUB. After welcoming and introducing the challenge, the team formation, a joint dinner, and the start of the working phase follow. Teams can consist of up to five people. Individuals will be grouped into a team with other participants.
Workshops, Consulting, and Pitch Feedback
From November 17 to 21, the development of the prototypes will be at the forefront. The working phase mainly takes place online; additionally, workspace in the Open Space of CITYHUB will be available if interested. Subject matter experts, background information, sample data, and daily online office hours will support the event planning and technical implementation. On Saturday, teams will have the opportunity to obtain feedback on their final pitch.
Final with Prize Money and Future Perspective
At the closing event on Sunday, November 22, starting at 12 PM, teams will present their results to a jury. For the best ideas, a total of 3,000 Euros in prize money will be awarded: 1,500 Euros for first place, 1,000 Euros for second place, and 500 Euros for third place. Additionally, there is the opportunity to further develop the project together with Stadtwerke Bonn and bring it into practice.
