WORDS Remember: Writing Against Forgetting in Bonn

How do memories, history, and personal thoughts become literature? The writing workshop for adults at the Bundeskunsthalle invites you to develop your own texts on memory culture and social responsibility. The workshop combines engagement with the exhibition NEVER AGAIN! Against the Forgetting of NS Crimes with creative writing impulses and opens a safe space for individual perspectives.

Between Memory and Language Art

Beginning with encounters with selected content from the exhibition, a joint tour or focused engagement with the exhibits introduces the thematic world. Observations, questions, and emotions then transform into personal texts. Poetic forms, personal notes, and literary miniatures are given equal space.

Creative Writing Without Prior Knowledge

The writing workshop is aimed at adults aged 18 and over and does not require any prior experience in creative writing. Different approaches and reactions are explicitly welcome. The atmosphere remains appreciative and open: the created texts do not have to be read aloud, but can be shared with the group at the end.

Led by Julius Esser

The workshop is led by Julius Esser, author and slam poet. His work combines literary precision with immediate stage presence, making the workshop a special encounter with the author. The focus is not on perfect form but on the power of language to make personal experiences visible and social questions narratable.

A Literary Experience on the Museum Mile

The Bundeskunsthalle provides an inspiring cultural framework for this reading workshop. Between exhibition, discussion, and personal text production, an intense reading atmosphere is created, where language is experienced as a tool of remembrance. The workshop is for anyone who wants to engage literarily with history, human dignity, diversity, and democracy.

Conclusion: Writing as a Form of Responsibility

Visitors can expect a focused afternoon between art education, memory culture, and creative writing. Those who want to transform their own thoughts into language and develop new narrative perspectives will experience an inspiring workshop with social depth in Bonn. Participation in the writing workshop offers the opportunity to not only observe literature but to create it themselves.
