Touch/ing Transformation: Sustainability becomes a walkable experience

What does climate change sound like? What do mushrooms teach us about collaboration? And how do just futures emerge? The media installation Touch/ing Transformation transforms the media art space of the Bundeskunsthalle in Bonn into an interactive knowledge repository that sensually connects art, design, and science.

An exhibition that brings knowledge into motion

Over 50 projects open a polyphonic view of socio-ecological transformation. Interviews, videos, photographs, and texts invite visitors to choose their own paths through the installation. Expansive touch walls make complex interconnections tangible and show how world design, social well-being, and planetary health are intertwined.

Interactive media art with an optimistic perspective

The dramaturgy of the installation does not follow a linear guide. Instead, an individual stage experience emerges between discovery, connection, and further thought. Visitors navigate through good practices from art, culture, design, and science and encounter ideas that understand sustainable futures not as an abstract buzzword but as concrete design practice.

From the digital platform to the physical space

Touch/ing Transformation brings the transform.NRW platform spatially into the Bundeskunsthalle for the first time. The collectively curated exhibition consolidates perspectives on sustainable design and makes them accessible through a walkable media installation. Design and technical implementation come from dform and BILDWERK; the project was realized in cooperation with the Bundeskunsthalle and with funding from the Ministry of Culture and Science of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia.

Theatrical atmosphere without a traditional stage

Although there is no performing arts in the conventional sense on the schedule, the installation develops its own staging: light, image, sound, and text enter into an open dialogue. The visitor's reaction becomes part of the event, as each interaction alters the personal course through the digital stage. Thus, a concentrated theatrical atmosphere arises between media art, exhibition, and future lab.

Conclusion: Experiencing the future together

Touch/ing Transformation focuses on the possibilities of collective change. The audience is promised an interactive cultural experience that makes sustainability knowledge accessible, raises questions, and opens up new avenues for action. Those who want to bring art, design, science, and social futures into conversation will experience an exhibition in Bonn with sustainable resonance.
