Color Becomes Space: A Creative Workshop at gkg Bonn
On Saturday, October 24, 2026, gkg – Society for Art and Design e.V. in Bonn invites you to the free workshop COLOR SPACES – between Painting, Model, and Space. Adults and families will explore together how painterly surfaces can be transformed into three-dimensional structures through simple interventions.
From Image to Spatial Form
The workshop begins with the surface: Color, composition, and material form the starting point of artistic work. By cutting, layering, bending, arching, and collaging, open forms emerge that bridge painting, modeling, and sculpture. The image frees itself from its traditional boundaries and gains a physical presence in space.
Aesthetic Experience with Color and Material
The engagement with the artwork is directly connected to personal creation. Color surfaces overlap, edges emerge, paper is folded and bent. This creates a sensual exhibition atmosphere, where materiality, light, shadow, and spatial effects become tangible. The art experience arises not only from viewing but from actively engaging with form and surface.
Art Historical Context: Painting between Surface and Space
From an art historical perspective, the workshop touches on central questions of modern and contemporary art: When does painting remain an image, and when does it become an object or installation? The connection between collage, model, and sculptural form opens access to constructive, concrete, and space-related art movements. Cultural education is conveyed as a practical experience – focused, experimental, and open to diverse forms of expression.
Inspiration from Clemens Botho Goldbach
Impulses are provided by the current exhibition CBG FORMWORK GKG of the Düsseldorf sculptor and installation artist Clemens Botho Goldbach. Goldbach deals with architecture, space, and material as well as the traces that construction and form leave in the built environment. His position, awarded the Leo Breuer Promotion Prize 2026, forms the conceptual resonance space for the workshop.
Collaborative Creation for Adults and Families
Agnes Mrowiec guides the participants through the creative process. The format is aimed at adults and families, combining experimental work with a direct encounter with contemporary art. Participation is free; registration is requested through gkg.
Conclusion: An Art Experience between Surface, Model, and Space
COLOR SPACES promises an inspiring aesthetic experience for all who wish to not only view painting but also bring it into movement themselves. Those who want to experience how color, paper, and simple interventions create spatial art will find an open place for engagement, exchange, and personal creation at gkg Bonn. A visit enriches cultural perception and makes contemporary art immediately tangible.
