Ebony & Ivory: Sound colors between Classical, Jazz, and Modern

On Friday, November 6, 2026, the piano house Klavins in Bonn transforms into a concentrated sound space for an extraordinary trio concert. In Ebony & Ivory, clarinet, oboe, and piano come together, connecting musical opposites into a lively unity.

Three instruments, a multifaceted dialogue

The ensemble opens up a fascinating sound architecture: the clarinet and oboe bring their characteristic ebony colors, while the piano creates harmonic spaces, rhythmic impulses, and orchestral depth. In different duos, solo passages, and as a trio, a varied stage performance with finely tuned synchronization emerges.

From Classical to Musical Modernity

The program traverses several epochs and styles. Mel Bonis's Suite en Trio is presented alongside Marina Dranischnikova's Poem, excerpts from Béla Bartók's 44 Duos, Richard Rodney Bennett's Ballad in Memory of Shirley Horn, and Édouard Destenay's Trio in B minor. Thus, classical forms of expression, impressionistic sound colors, jazz-like elegance, and modern musical accents meet.

Mel Bonis at the Center of Rediscovery

A special color is added to the evening by the music of Mel Bonis. The French composer from the turn of the century was long considered forgotten and is increasingly being rediscovered today. Her Suite en Trio brings melodic sophistication, chamber music transparency, and an expressive orchestration to the concert program.

Live Atmosphere at the Piano House Klavins

The piano house Klavins offers the right setting for an immediate concert experience. The proximity to the music makes breath, articulation, and dynamic contrasts particularly pronounced. Between clear woodwind colors, floating piano harmonies, and rhythmic precision, a concentrated audience atmosphere develops, where every detail counts.

Conclusion: An Evening of Contrasts

Ebony & Ivory invites you on a musical journey where diversity and unity become audible. Attendees can expect a demanding chamber concert with clarinet, oboe, and piano, exciting works from Classical to Modern, and a special tribute to Mel Bonis. Those who appreciate intimate live music and multifaceted sound colors should experience this evening live at the piano house Klavins.
