Great sound art for the turn of the year: The Berlin Philharmonic live in cinema
On Thursday, December 31, 2026, the Rex cinema in Bonn will be transformed into a concert hall of a special kind. The New Year's concert of the Berlin Philharmonic will be transmitted live from Berlin to the big screen, combining the immediate live atmosphere of a large orchestra with the comfortable concert experience in cinema seats.
Kirill Petrenko ignites a musical firework
Chief conductor Kirill Petrenko will guide through a lively program blending Viennese classicism, Russian sound fantasy, and whimsical orchestral fun. Sergei Prokofiev's Classical Symphony parodies Haydn and Mozart with dance-like precision, surprising accents, and brilliant orchestral synchronization.
Virtuoso soloists and pointed sound colors
In the double concerto for piano, trumpet, and string orchestra in C minor, Op. 35 by Dmitri Shostakovich, pianist Alexander Malofeev and solo trumpeter David Guerrier meet the Berlin top orchestra. The combination of virtuoso stage performance, nuanced sound, and Petrenko's precise conducting promises a musical dialogue full of wit and energy.
From Prokofiev to Richard Strauss
Richard Strauss' Till Eulenspiegel's Merry Pranks brings narrative sound images and cheeky orchestral twists to the concert evening. Otto Nicolai's overture from The Merry Wives of Windsor, as well as Johann Strauss' overture to The Gypsy Baron, add further festive accents and lead gracefully into the New Year.
