"In Still Night": A moving song evening at the Schumann House Bonn
On Friday, October 23, 2026, the Schumann House Bonn Endenich opens its rooms for a finely curated song evening between romance, folk song tradition, and chamber music intimacy. Under the title "In Still Night," the voices of Benita Borbonus and Alexander Schmidt meet the sensitive piano playing of Hrönn Thrainsdottir.
Brahms and Schubert in concentrated live atmosphere
The program leads into the poetic sound world of Johannes Brahms and Franz Schubert. Particularly appealing is the selection from Brahms' arrangements of German folk songs: Simple melodies gain a new depth through harmonic finesse, differentiated dynamics, and careful phrasing.
Soprano, baritone, and piano combine into a musical dramaturgy in which lyrical intimacy and dramatic expression stand side by side. The fine synchronization of the voices, the precise piano accompaniment, and the chamber musical stage performance promise a concert experience with great closeness to the audience.
Voices, Breath, and Radiant Piano Colors
Benita Borbonus shapes the soprano parts with clear lines and emotional presence, while Alexander Schmidt brings the warm, narrative character of the baritone voice. Hrönn Thrainsdottir carries the songs with a transparent sound and attentive musical dialogue.
In the historical setting of the Schumann House, the songs unfold their special impact: Every breath, every nuance in touch, and every turn of orchestration stands out clearly. The acoustics create space for quiet nuances as well as for expressive peaks.
An evening for lovers of classical vocal music
The song evening is aimed at all who wish to experience Schubert, Brahms, and the art of the sung word directly. The approximately 75-minute program combines music-historical significance with a personal, concentrated concert atmosphere.
