The focus of the evening is Benjamin Britten's Christmas work A Ceremony of Carols – a sonorous connection of medieval-inspired melodies, modern choral language, and festive Advent atmosphere.

Britten Between Shine, Calm, and Dramatic Tension

Benjamin Britten's A Ceremony of Carols unfolds its effect through finely graded dynamics, precise synchronization of voices, and a characteristic mix of clear line leading and mysterious sound color. Traditional carol songs meet a sophisticated orchestration for choir and harp, creating a musical arc between heartfelt contemplation and festive brilliance.
