Blues Bass Workshop in Bonn: The Foundation Grooves

On Saturday, December 5, 2026, Groovestation at the Bürgerzentrum Bonn Dottendorf invites you to an intensive Blues Bass Workshop. Under the motto from simple to really cool, participants will discover the rhythmic power of the bass and develop a secure feeling for typical blues accompaniments.

Understanding Blues, Developing Groove

The blues forms the foundation of numerous popular music styles – from rock 'n' roll and jazz to soul and rock, to hip hop and modern pop. Its clear chord progressions create ideal conditions for quickly making music together without leadsheets or lengthy discussions.

Scales, Rhythm, and Playing Techniques

The focus will be on the basic tools of a convincing blues bass accompaniment. The workshop imparts the peculiarities of blues, the typical musician's language, various blues scales, rhythmic concepts, and practical playing techniques. Turnaround skills and different blues forms are also part of the program.

From Major Blues to Minor Blues

Participants will learn how major and minor blues differ and how bass lines function in both forms. The workshop connects musical theory with direct application: listening, reacting, keeping the pulse, and developing a viable sound in ensemble play.

For Beginners and Curious Bass Players

Note reading skills are not required. The workshop is aimed at anyone looking to expand their blues fundamentals, gain more confidence in ensemble playing, or purposefully develop their groove. The limited number of participants creates space for focused work and personal musical impulses.

What Visitors Can Expect

From 10:30 AM to 4:30 PM, a full workshop day will be focused on bass, rhythm, and blues. Entry begins at 10:45 AM, and registration is required. The participation fee is 115 euros, with a reduced price of 100 euros for students and pupils.
